The FIFA U-17 World Cup is set to take place at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) in Surabaya City on November 10, 2023. As the host city, the Surabaya City Government is making various preparations, including improvements to facilities at the GBT Stadium, training grounds, and decorative elements to welcome this prestigious event.

The Head of the Surabaya City Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism (Disbudporapar) Department, Wiwiek Widayati, explained that various preparations include conducting minor repairs in several areas of the GBT Stadium, such as restrooms in the supporters stands, access roads, and parking lots. When asked about the composite logo, Wiwiek mentioned that the logo, which will be used as one of the promotional media for the U-17 World Cup in the city of Surabaya, has now been approved by FIFA.

"The composite logo has already been submitted to FIFA through the local organizing committee (LOC), and they have given their approval without any issues. We have also included the composite logo in all our promotional materials," said Wiwiek on Tuesday (October 3, 2023).

Wiwiek explained that the composite logo, which had been approved by FIFA, would be submitted to the Surabaya City Department of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Trade (Dinkopdag) for reproduction through local MSME products. "Because the composite logo is different from the mascot, it's just a logo. However, the choice of the model in which the logo will be applied rests with Dinkopdag," explained Wiwiek.

Wiwiek revealed that as the host city, Surabaya will also have its own mascot. The mascot design in Surabaya differs from the Bacuya used by FIFA. When asked about the appearance and character of the mascot to be used, she did not provide detailed information.

She further stated that the mascot's design is currently in progress and will soon be presented to Mayor Eri Cahyadi before being proposed to FIFA through the local organizing committee. "Today, our team is working on redesigning the mascot. I am confident that the mascot will have a strong local essence," She concluded. (*)
