The Surabaya City Government (Pemkot Surabaya) has once again organized coaching clinics and street soccer events at Car Free Day (CFD) along Tunjungan and Darmo Street. These coaching clinics and street soccer events are held to welcome the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will take place at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) on November 10, 2023.

The event, titled "Semarak Pesta Bola Dunia Surabaya," is organized by the Department of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism (Disbudporapar) of Surabaya City and features two football athletes. On Tunjungan Street, Disbudporapar has brought in players from Persebaya Surabaya, namely Rifqi Arya Wardana and Ruy Arianto.

Trio Wahyu Bowo, the Head of Sports at Disbudporapar Surabaya, explained that this event is part of the festivities leading up to the FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled at GBT Stadium on November 10. "This event is also a way to raise awareness among the residents of Surabaya and East Java so that they are aware that the opening of the FIFA U-17 World Cup will be held at GBT Stadium," said Trio on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Trio mentioned that this street soccer event is attended by 93 junior high school students from across Surabaya. On average, the participants are 15 year old students. In addition to participating in street soccer, these students also engage in juggling with the two Persebaya Surabaya players.

On this occasion, Trio invited the residents of Surabaya to participate in the excitement of the opening ceremony and matches of the FIFA U-17 World Cup at GBT Stadium. As previously announced, Surabaya City Mayor, Eri Cahyadi, stated that GBT Stadium is ready to host this prestigious event, and all its facilities are all clear for use.

According to the official FIFA website's schedule, the Indonesian National Team is in Group A along with three other national teams: Ecuador, Morocco, and Panama. The first match will be between Panama and Morocco at 16:00 WIB, followed by Indonesia against Ecuador at 19:00 WIB, both at GBT Stadium on November 10, 2023.

"Let the people of Surabaya come together to watch the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches at GBT Stadium," Trio urged.

Furthermore, Persebaya's winger Ruy Arianto sees the coaching clinics and street soccer events that are organized by the Surabaya City Government as not only a way to celebrate the FIFA U-17 World Cup but also a platform to nurture the talents of Surabaya's students.

He expressed his pride in the spirit shown by the children of Surabaya participating in the coaching clinics and street soccer event today. He hopes that these children can become part of Persebaya Surabaya in the future, especially for the Indonesian National Team.

"The youth of Surabaya must have the spirit to work hard, never give up, and don't forget to seek the blessings of their parents to achieve success. As a resident of Surabaya, I am proud to see children participating in the football training today," Ruy remarked.

In line with Ruy, Persebaya Surabaya's senior left-back Rifqi Arya Wardana added that the coaching clinics organized this time is great to motivate the children in Surabaya. "In addition to welcoming the FIFA U-17 World Cup, it's also to hone the talents of the children of Surabaya," he concluded. (*)
